The Everest View Trek itinerary runs 5 days, Lukla to Lukla, reaching a high point of 3,880m at the Everest View Hotel ridge above Namche Bazaar. There’s no rest day built in separately — the acclimatisation hike on Day 3 doubles as the trip’s main viewpoint. Below is the exact day-by-day route, with altitude, walking time, and meals for each day.

This is the operational route breakdown, not the sales pitch — if you want the “why” behind this trek first, read our Everest View Trek overview guide instead.

Day 1 — Kathmandu to Lukla to Phakding (2,610m)

Altitude: 2,610m | Flight: 35 min | Trek: 3–4 hrs | Meals: Lunch, Dinner | Stay: Teahouse, Phakding

The day starts with the Kathmandu–Lukla flight, 35 minutes onto a short mountainside runway at Tenzing-Hillary Airport. From Lukla, the trail drops gently along the Dudh Koshi River, past prayer wheels, mani stones, and the first small Sherpa settlements. There’s no rush built into this day on purpose — it’s meant as an easy introduction before the trail starts climbing in earnest tomorrow. Breakfast isn’t included today since the flight departs before any hotel service starts.

Day 2 — Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)

Altitude: 3,440m | Trek: 5–6 hrs | Ascent: +830m | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner | Stay: Teahouse, Namche Bazaar

This is the longest walking day of the trip. The trail follows the Dudh Koshi through pine forest, crossing several suspension bridges — including one specifically named Hillary Suspension Bridge, the best-known of several crossings on this stretch — before climbing steadily into Namche Bazaar. Namche sits at 3,440m as a horseshoe of teahouses, bakeries, and gear shops built into the hillside, and it’s where the trek’s two-night stop begins.

Day 3 — Everest View Point and Khumjung Village (3,880m)

Altitude: 3,880m high point | Trek: 4–5 hrs | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner | Stay: Teahouse, Namche Bazaar

This day does two jobs at once — it’s the trek’s acclimatisation day and its main event. The morning hike climbs above Namche to the Everest View Hotel ridge at 3,880m, where Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku fill the northern horizon on a clear morning. From there the trail continues to Khumjung village, a quieter Sherpa settlement with the Hillary School and a monastery that locals say holds a yeti scalp, before returning to Namche for the second night. Nothing about this day is rushed — it’s built to be the highlight, not a box to check before descending.

Day 4 — Namche Bazaar Back to Lukla (2,860m)

Altitude: 2,860m | Trek: 6–7 hrs | Descent: -580m | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner | Stay: Teahouse, Lukla

The trail retraces Day 2’s route in reverse — forest trails, Sherpa villages, and the same Hillary Suspension Bridge — all the way back down to Lukla. It’s the longest day by walking time, since it covers in one day what took a day and a half on the way up. Use the evening in Lukla to tip your guide and porter, and confirm your morning flight time before settling in.

Day 5 — Fly Lukla to Kathmandu

Flight: 35 min | Meals: Breakfast

The early-morning flight returns to Kathmandu, and the Everest View Trek ends on landing. Always build 1–2 buffer days into your Kathmandu schedule after this flight — Lukla departures are weather-dependent, and a same-day international connection is a real risk, not a formality.

Acclimatisation on a 5-Day Itinerary

There’s no separate “acclimatisation day” on this itinerary the way longer Khumbu treks build one in — Day 3’s viewpoint hike does that job instead. That works here specifically because the trek’s high point, 3,880m, sits well below where altitude sickness risk becomes a real planning factor on longer routes. The two nights in Namche (Day 2 and Day 3) still matter: sleeping at the same altitude twice, with a higher day hike in between, is the standard acclimatisation pattern, just compressed into a shorter trip because the ceiling is lower.

Can the Itinerary Be Adjusted?

Yes — this runs as a private trek, not a fixed group departure, so the itinerary above is the standard version, not the only version. An extra night in Namche, a helicopter return instead of Day 4’s walk back, or a Khumjung-focused Day 3 instead of the standard loop are all things we can build in before booking. What doesn’t move is the flight days at either end, since those follow Lukla’s own schedule, not ours.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many days is the Everest View Trek itinerary?

5 days, Lukla to Lukla, not counting the Kathmandu–Lukla flight days on either end since those are already included in the 5-day count.

Which day has the longest walk?

Day 4, the descent from Namche back to Lukla, at 6–7 hours. It covers the same ground as Day 1 and Day 2 combined, done in a single day on the way down.

Is there a rest day in this itinerary?

Not a separate one — Day 3’s hike to the Everest View Hotel doubles as the acclimatisation stop, since the trek’s altitude never goes high enough to need a dedicated rest day the way longer Khumbu routes do.

Can I extend this itinerary by a day or two?

Yes, since this runs as a private trip. An extra night in Namche or a slower Day 3 are the two easiest additions — tell us before booking so we can adjust flights and permits accordingly.
