Route for the Kathmandu Pokhara Tour

Kathmandu → Pokhara (flight) → Kathmandu (flight)

Why Choose This Kathmandu Pokhara Tour Package?

In six days, you see two very different sides of Nepal. Kathmandu is temple squares, stupas and centuries of Newar craft, all within a short drive. Pokhara is a calm lake town, with the Annapurna range rising straight behind it. Most visitors spend a full day on the road between them. You don’t.

The flight takes about 25 minutes, against six to seven hours by road. On a clear day, sit on the right going to Pokhara and the left coming back. Manaslu, Lamjung Himal and Machhapuchhre line the window. You land by late morning and start sightseeing the same afternoon.

Every day runs on your schedule. Your driver waits at each stop, your 4-star hotel is booked, and your entrance tickets are already paid. If something matters to you, like a slower pace or an extra night by the lake, we build it in. Prefer to see the country by road? Our 9-day Kathmandu, Chitwan and Lumbini tour and 11-day Nepal Road Trip travel mostly overland.

Kathmandu Pokhara Tour Highlights

  • Four World Heritage sites in one day — Swayambhunath, Patan Durbar Square, Pashupatinath and Boudhanath, ending at Boudha as the evening walk around the stupa begins
  • A 25-minute flight with a view — Manaslu, Lamjung Himal and Machhapuchhre from the window on a clear day
  • Sunrise from Sarangkot — first light on the Annapurna range and Machhapuchhre, from the Panchmukhi Ganesh temple viewpoint
  • Pokhara from above — the World Peace Pagoda and Pumdikot Mahadev, both looking down over Phewa Lake
  • Caves, falls and gorges — Gupteshwor Cave, Davis Falls, Mahendra Cave, the Bat Cave and the Seti River gorge
  • Gurkha Memorial Museum — the story of Nepal’s Gurkha soldiers, many of them from the hills around Pokhara
  • A free morning by the lake — shop on Lakeside, or add a boat to Tal Barahi temple, paragliding or a zipline

Who Is This Kathmandu Pokhara Tour For?

  • Travellers with a week or less who want Kathmandu and Pokhara without long drives
  • Trekkers adding a few easy days before or after Everest, Annapurna or Langtang
  • Partners or family members who don’t trek but are travelling with someone who does
  • Older travellers, families with children, and anyone who prefers a private vehicle

Day 2 is long, with four big sites and Kathmandu traffic. Day 4 starts before dawn for the Sarangkot sunrise. Some temples have steep steps, especially Swayambhunath. Non-Hindus can’t enter the main Pashupatinath temple, but you can see it from across the Bagmati River.

Flights, Vehicles and Best Time to Visit

Flights: The Kathmandu–Pokhara flight takes about 25 minutes, with several airlines on the route daily. We book a morning flight to Pokhara and an afternoon flight back. Weather can delay mountain flights, so the last day stays free.

Vehicles: A private car for 1–4 travellers (up to 3 if a guide joins), a jeep or van for 5–7, and a Hiace for 8–12. A guide rides in the same vehicle. A larger vehicle is available on request.

Guide: A licensed guide can join for the sightseeing days or the whole tour, in English, French, German, Spanish or Chinese. Ask us for a quote.

Rooms: Solo travellers get a single room. Groups share twin rooms; a group of three gets one twin and one single, with a supplement.

Best Time to Visit: October to December brings the clearest mountain views. March to May is warmer and hazier. From June to September, cloud often hides the peaks. Dashain runs from 30 September to 9 October in 2027, so book early for those dates.

Kathmandu Pokhara Tour – Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Kathmandu and Pokhara Private Tour?

It is a 6-day, 5-night private tour of Kathmandu and Pokhara, with flights between the two cities. It includes 4-star hotels, a private vehicle, daily breakfast, a welcome or farewell dinner and main entrance fees. Prices run from $635 to $880 per person, depending on group size.

Why fly to Pokhara instead of driving?

The flight takes about 25 minutes, while the drive takes six to seven hours on the Prithvi Highway. Flying saves most of a day each way, so you get more time in Pokhara. If you’d like to see the countryside, our 9-day and 11-day tours travel overland.

    Is a guide included?

No. The price includes a driver and vehicle, but not a guide. You can add a licensed guide in English, French, German, Spanish or Chinese, for the sightseeing days or the whole tour. Tell us your language and dates for a quote.

    Which entrance fees are included?

The main entrance fee at every guided site is included. In Kathmandu, that means Swayambhunath, Patan Durbar Square, Pashupatinath and Boudhanath. In Pokhara, it covers Pumdikot, Davis Falls, Gupteshwor Cave, Mahendra Cave, the Bat Cave and the Gurkha Memorial Museum. Separate fees inside a site, such as a museum or camera fee, are not included. The Tal Barahi boat, paragliding and the zipline are extra.

Can I go inside Pashupatinath Temple?

Only Hindus can enter the main temple. Everyone else can walk the temple grounds and the riverbank, and see the main temple from the east bank of the Bagmati. The cremation ghats are visible from there too, so please be respectful when taking photos.

Will I see the mountains from Sarangkot?

On a clear morning, yes: the Annapurna range and Machhapuchhre rise right above Pokhara. October to December gives the best chance. In the monsoon, from June to September, cloud often hides the peaks, so we can’t promise a view.

Can I add paragliding or a zipline?

Yes. Day 5 has a free morning for optional activities, at extra cost. Paragliding takes off from Sarangkot and lands by Phewa Lake. Tell us when you book, and we’ll arrange it around your afternoon flight.

    What rooms are included?

Solo travellers get a private single room. Groups share twin rooms in 4-star hotels. A group of three gets one twin room and one single room, with a single-room supplement. Single rooms for anyone else can be added for an extra charge.

    What vehicle will we use?

A private car for one to four travellers, a jeep or van for five to seven, and a Hiace for eight to twelve. If you add a guide, they travel in the same vehicle. You can ask for a bigger vehicle for more comfort, at extra cost.

    Can I change the itinerary?

Yes. This is a suggested plan, and the tour is fully customisable. You can add nights, swap sites, change the hotel level, add a guide or upgrade the vehicle. Tell us what you want, and we’ll send an updated plan and quote.

Can I do this tour after a trek?

Yes. Many travellers add it before or after a trek in Everest, Annapurna or Langtang. If you finish a trek in Pokhara, we can adjust the order so you don’t fly back and forth. Message us with your trek dates.

How is this different from your 9-day and 11-day tours?

This tour is Kathmandu and Pokhara only, with flights and no long drives. The 9-day Kathmandu, Chitwan and Lumbini tour adds Bhaktapur, Nagarkot, Chitwan and Lumbini, without Pokhara. The 11-day Nepal Road Trip drives the whole loop, with rafting, Bandipur, Pokhara, Lumbini and Chitwan.
