Manaslu Circuit Trek Cost: Total Budget at a Glance
Most trekkers spend between $1,500 and $2,550 on the ground. The lower column assumes the 8–12 group price and renting your cold-weather gear. The higher column assumes the solo price, a mid-range Kathmandu hotel and more spending on the trail.
| Cost item | Lower budget | Higher budget | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trek package | $1,099 | $1,699 | 8–12 group vs solo; 2–4 is $1,499 |
| Nepal visa (30 days) | $50 | $50 | On arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport |
| Kathmandu hotel, 2–3 nights | $40 | $200 | Not included; budget guesthouse vs mid-range hotel |
| Travel insurance | $80 | $150 | Must cover trekking above 5,000m and helicopter evacuation |
| Gear rental or purchase | $25 | $100 | Renting a down jacket and sleeping bag vs buying extras |
| Trail extras (11 trekking days) | $90 | $165 | Drinks, snacks, hot showers, charging |
| Tips for guide and porter | $100 | $180 | Per person; depends on group size |
| Total before international flights | $1,484 | $2,544 | Rounded to $1,500–$2,550 |
Every line except the package, visa and permits is an approximate figure. Hotel, insurance and tip amounts vary by person. We leave international flights out of the total because fares change too fast and depend on where you fly from.

Manaslu Circuit Trek Permit Costs
Manaslu permits come to about USD 180 per person in autumn, and all of them are included in our price. They are worth understanding, though, because they explain why Manaslu costs more than an open trek like the Annapurna Circuit.
| Permit | Foreign national | Who issues it |
|---|---|---|
| Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (Sep–Nov) | USD 100 for the first 7 days, then USD 15 per day | Department of Immigration, via a registered agency |
| Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (Dec–Aug) | USD 75 for the first 7 days, then USD 10 per day | Department of Immigration, via a registered agency |
| Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP) | NPR 3,000 (NPR 1,000 for SAARC nationals) | Checked from Philim |
| Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) | NPR 3,000 (NPR 1,000 for SAARC nationals) | Needed for the exit via Bimthang and Dharapani |
| Chumnubri Rural Municipality fee | NPR 1,000 | Collected at the Jagat checkpoint |
How the restricted area permit is charged
The restricted area permit is the biggest permit cost. It is charged by the days you spend inside the restricted zone, not by the length of the whole trip. On our itinerary you enter at Jagat on Day 2 and leave the zone over Larkya La on Day 10. That counts as 9 days, so the permit costs USD 130 in autumn. The rest of the year, it costs USD 95.
Solo trekkers can now get the permit
Until March 2026, the restricted area permit needed at least two foreign trekkers. On 22 March 2026, Nepal’s Department of Immigration removed that minimum. One trekker can now get the permit alone, and our solo price reflects that. A licensed guide is still required for every trekker in the restricted area. More detail is in our Manaslu Circuit permits guide.
What You Pay on Top of the Package
Nepal visa
Most nationalities get a tourist visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport. It costs USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days or USD 125 for 90 days. A 13-day trek plus a buffer day in Kathmandu takes most people past 15 days. Plan on the 30-day visa.
Travel insurance
Larkya La sits at 5,106m, so your policy must cover trekking above 5,000m and helicopter evacuation. Many standard travel policies stop at a lower altitude, so check the small print before you buy. We confirm your cover before we confirm your booking. Without insurance, a helicopter from the upper Manaslu valley costs several thousand US dollars. The operator sets the price at the time of the flight.
Kathmandu hotel and meals
The trek starts and ends in Kathmandu, and hotel nights there are not part of the package. Most people need two or three nights. That means one or two before the drive to Machha Khola, and one after Day 13. A simple guesthouse in Thamel costs far less than a mid-range hotel. That choice makes up much of the gap between the two budget columns.
Gear
Bring broken-in boots, base layers, a waterproof jacket and a daypack from home. Bulky cold-weather items are cheaper to rent in Thamel than to buy. A down jacket and a sleeping bag usually rent for a dollar or two per day each. You need a sleeping bag good for well below freezing, since nights at Samdo and Dharamsala are the coldest of the trek. Our Manaslu Circuit packing list covers what to buy and what to rent.
Tips for guide and porter
Tipping is customary in Nepal and makes up a real part of what guides and porters earn. A common guideline is a few dollars per day for each porter, and a little more for the guide. The group pools it and hands it over at the end of the trek. Larger groups split the total, so the per-person amount falls as the group grows.
Daily Trail Expenses on the Manaslu Circuit
Your meals and room are covered, so trail spending is mostly small extras. Bring Nepali rupees in cash from Kathmandu. There are no ATMs once you leave the road, and teahouses do not take cards.
| Item | Typical price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hot shower | NPR 200–400 | Reliable up to Namrung; unreliable or cold higher up |
| Device charging | NPR 200–300 per device | Solar-dependent above Samdo |
| Wi-Fi | Varies by lodge | Usable in the lower villages, largely gone from Samagaon up |
| Snacks, soft drinks, extra tea | A few dollars a day | Prices rise with altitude, since everything comes up by mule or porter |
Carry a water filter or purification tablets instead of buying bottled water. Plastic bottles are expensive higher up and hard to dispose of in a remote valley.
Ways to Spend Less on the Manaslu Circuit
- Trek with others. Moving from solo to a group of 2–4 cuts the package by $200 per person, and 8–12 cuts it by $600.
- Go outside autumn. The restricted area permit is cheaper from December to August. Spring (March to May) is the other good season for the pass.
- Rent bulky gear in Kathmandu. A down jacket and sleeping bag cost far less to rent than to buy for one trip.
- Filter your water. It saves money every day and keeps plastic out of the valley.
Manaslu Circuit Trek Cost vs Other Treks
Manaslu costs more than the open treks, mainly because of the restricted area permit and the longer road journey. It sits close to Everest Base Camp, even though our EBC price includes two Lukla flights.
| Trek | Days | Our price per person | Special permit? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manaslu Circuit | 13 | $1,099–$1,699 | Yes, restricted area permit |
| Everest Base Camp | 12 | $1,039–$1,379 | No; Lukla flights included |
| Annapurna Circuit | 15 | $828–$1,198 | No |
| Annapurna Base Camp | 10 | $597–$899 | No |
On Manaslu, the extra money buys a quieter, more remote valley. You also get a full loop around an 8,000m peak and a pass crossing at 5,106m. Whether that is worth it depends on what you want from the trek, not on the price alone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Slightly. The restricted area permit costs USD 75 for the first 7 days from December to August. From September to November it is USD 100. Our package price stays the same in both seasons, so the saving does not change what you pay us.
Message us for current payment options before you book. On the trail itself, you need Nepali rupees in cash. Teahouses in the Manaslu valley do not take cards, and there are no ATMs past the road.
Tsum Valley needs its own restricted area permit. It costs USD 40 for the first 7 days in autumn, and USD 30 the rest of the year. It also adds several days of guide, porter and teahouse costs. See our Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek for a priced package.
Yes. Our package includes the drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola on Day 1. It also covers the jeep from Dharapani to Besisahar and the bus to Kathmandu on Day 13. The trek ends when you reach Kathmandu.
Yes, in every tier. A licensed guide is required by law for every trekker in the Manaslu restricted area, so it cannot be left out. Groups of 8 to 12 also get an assistant guide at no extra cost.
