Trip Overview

The Everest View Trek is a 5-day guided trek from Lukla to the Everest View Hotel Ridge (3,880m). Per person, it costs $599 to $899 depending on how many are in your group. The route runs through Phakding, Namche Bazaar, and the Sherpa villages of Khumjung and Khunde. The trail ends on a ridge with Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku in one panorama. There’s minimal altitude risk and no long time commitment.

Most days on the trail run three to five hours, crossing suspension bridges over the Dudh Kosi River. The route climbs through pine and rhododendron forest before the tree line opens above Namche. It’s gentle enough for families and first-timers. Day 3’s stop in Khumjung and Khunde adds real Sherpa cultural weight. With 12 days instead of 5, the Everest Base Camp Trek climbs further, to 5,644m at Kala Patthar.

We run this as a Kathmandu-based operation, not a reseller. Our guides carry current licenses, with flights, permits, and teahouse stops arranged on our end. Tell us your travel month on WhatsApp and we’ll lock in a date.

Route for Everest View Trek

Lukla → Phakding → Namche Bazaar → Everest View Hotel (3,880m) → Khumjung and Khunde Villages → Namche Bazaar → Lukla

Why Choose This Everest View Trek Package?

Not every traveller to Nepal has 12 days to spend above Lukla. The Everest View Trek is built specifically for trekkers who want the Khumbu experience without the extra time or altitude.

The Everest View Hotel ridge at 3,880m is the most accessible of the Khumbu’s major viewpoints. There are no extra acclimatisation days and no altitude symptoms to manage — just a short climb above Namche. The two nights in Namche Bazaar are part of the point. It’s the Khumbu’s historic trading hub and gateway to the high Himalaya, with a Saturday market — not just a place to sleep between trail days.

Not sure if 5 days is enough for you?

  • Have 12 days? The Everest Base Camp Trek reaches 5,644m at Kala Patthar — same starting trail, significantly higher destination.
  • Have 9 days? The Nangkartshang Peak Trek reaches a real 5,083m summit above Dingboche, with some of the closest Ama Dablam views in the Khumbu.
  • Have 5 days? The Everest View Trek is the right product — maximum Khumbu experience within a short window.

Everest View Trek — Highlights

  • Everest View Hotel ridge at 3,880m — Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku on the full northern horizon, from a hotel long marketed as one of the highest-placed in the world
  • Namche Bazaar — the Sherpa capital of the Khumbu at 3,440m, a two-night base with a Saturday market, expedition history, and some of the highest-altitude bakeries on the trail
  • Sagarmatha National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site entered near Monjo on Day 2, home to over 200 recorded bird species
  • Khumjung and Khunde villages — traditional Sherpa communities above Namche with the Hillary School, a monastery said to hold a Yeti scalp, and panoramic mountain views
  • Phakding to Namche trail — the classic Khumbu approach, crossing several suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi — including the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge — through rhododendron forest
  • Lukla Tenzing-Hillary Airport — widely described as one of the world’s most dramatic short-runway airports, the start and end point of every Khumbu trek

Who Is this Everest View Trek For?

  • First-time trekkers who want a genuine Himalayan experience without high-altitude demands
  • Travellers with a 5-day window who cannot commit to the full 12-day EBC schedule
  • Families, older trekkers, or those with limited trekking fitness who want the Khumbu without the upper altitude
  • Anyone who wants to see Everest in person from a genuine mountain viewpoint — not a postcard version
  • Trekkers who want to experience Namche Bazaar and Sherpa culture with real time to explore

The maximum altitude is 3,880m — manageable for trekkers with a reasonable baseline of walking fitness, and no prior high-altitude experience is required. Altitude sickness is still possible above 2,500m, so we watch for symptoms and keep a sensible pace. Even so, this trek carries none of the sustained high-altitude risk of the longer Khumbu routes. That makes the Everest View Trek the most genuinely accessible Khumbu product Mountain Hike Nepal offers.

Why Trek With Mountain Hike Nepal?

  • Licensed local Sherpa guides with Khumbu experience — every guide has walked this trail across multiple seasons and knows the Namche area thoroughly
  • Lukla flights and Ramechhap transfer handled for you — round-trip domestic flights and the Kathmandu-to-Ramechhap transfer during peak season, arranged before you arrive
  • All permits included — Sagarmatha National Park and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu permits arranged before departure
  • Proper pacing — two nights in Namche means real time to explore, not a rushed turnaround
  • No extended fitness prep required — a reasonable walking baseline is enough; this isn’t a trek that demands 6–8 weeks of training beforehand
  • Transparent pricing — every cost disclosed before booking
  • Kathmandu-based operation since 2018, not a booking platform passing your trip to a subcontractor

Lukla Flight Information

Peak Season (Spring: March–May | Autumn: September–November): Lukla flights shift to Manthali Airport in Ramechhap during these busier months, rather than departing from Kathmandu directly. Expect an early-morning 4–5-hour overland drive from Kathmandu to Ramechhap ahead of the short onward flight to Lukla.

Off-Peak Season (Winter: December–February | Monsoon: June–August): Flights typically run direct between Kathmandu and Lukla outside the peak months, though this still depends on airline scheduling and weather on the day.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) runs this seasonal arrangement to reduce congestion at Tribhuvan International Airport during peak season. It applies to every airline flying scheduled Lukla routes, including Tara Air, Summit Air, and Sita Air. We include the Ramechhap transfer in every Everest View Trek package for this reason.

Everest View Trek — Itinerary

Day 01 — Kathmandu to Lukla to Phakding: Into the Khumbu (2,610m)

Altitude: 2,610m | Flight: 35 min | Trek: 3–4 hrs | Meals: Lunch, Dinner | Stay: Teahouse, Phakding

The morning flight — departing from Ramechhap Airport in peak season with the midnight transfer included — lands at Tenzing-Hillary Airport after 35 minutes. From Lukla the trail descends gently along the Dudh Koshi River through prayer wheels, mani stones, and small Sherpa settlements. Day 1 is a relaxed introduction to Himalayan trekking on purpose — don’t rush it. The Khumbu reveals itself slowly.

Day 02 — Phakding to Namche Bazaar: Heart of the Khumbu (3,440m)

Altitude: 3,440m | Trek: 5–6 hrs | Ascent: +830m | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner | Stay: Teahouse, Namche Bazaar

The trail follows the Dudh Koshi River through pine forests and crosses several suspension bridges — including the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge — before climbing steadily toward Namche Bazaar. Namche arrives at 3,440m as a horseshoe of teahouses, bakeries, gear shops, and expedition history. Two nights here gives genuine time to explore.

Day 03 — Namche Bazaar: Everest View Point and Khumjung Village (3,880m)

Altitude: 3,880m high point | Trek: 4–5 hrs | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner | Stay: Teahouse, Namche Bazaar

A scenic morning hike leads above Namche to the Everest View Hotel ridge at 3,880m. Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Thamserku fill the full northern horizon from the ridge. After enjoying the view, the trail continues through Khumjung village before returning to Namche for the second night.

Day 04 — Namche Bazaar to Lukla: The Return (2,860m)

Altitude: 2,860m | Trek: 6–7 hrs | Descent: -580m | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner | Stay: Teahouse, Lukla

The trek descends through familiar forest trails, Sherpa villages, and the Hillary Suspension Bridge, retracing the route from Namche Bazaar all the way to Lukla. The return trail carries a different quality. Use the Namche stop to tip your guide and porter in cash, and confirm the morning flight time with your guide at Lukla tonight.

Day 05 — Fly Lukla to Kathmandu: Everest View Trek Ends

Flight: 35 min | Meals: Breakfast

The early morning flight returns to Kathmandu. The Everest View Trek ends on landing. 5 days. Namche Bazaar. Sagarmatha National Park. Everest from 3,880m. The Khumbu in full. Done.

Important: Always build 1–2 buffer days in Kathmandu after this flight. Lukla departures are weather-dependent. Never book a connecting international flight on the same day as your scheduled Lukla return.

Everest View Trek — Complete Planning Guides

Everest View Trek – Frequently Asked Questions

How difficult is the Everest View Trek?

The Everest View Trek is rated easy to moderate. The maximum altitude is 3,880m at the Everest View Hotel ridge, so no prior high-altitude experience is required, and the two nights in Namche provide adequate acclimatisation at 3,440m before the viewpoint hike.

Are Lukla flights and the Ramechhap transfer included?

Yes — round-trip domestic flights Kathmandu to Lukla and return are included in Mountain Hike Nepal’s package. The round-trip sharing transfer from your Kathmandu hotel to Ramechhap Airport is also included, and we coordinate all flight logistics, so you don’t arrange the Ramechhap transfer independently. Always build 1–2 buffer days in Kathmandu after the trek and never book a connecting flight the same day.

Is the Everest View Trek suitable for beginners and families?

Yes — this is specifically the trek Mountain Hike Nepal recommends for first-time trekkers, families, and older travellers. The maximum altitude of 3,880m is manageable for most fit adults, the trail is well-maintained throughout, and it suits trekkers with a basic walking fitness level who can manage 5–6 hours of uphill walking comfortably.

How does the Everest View Trek differ from the EBC Trek?

The Everest View Trek is 5 days and reaches 3,880m at the Everest View Hotel. The EBC Trek is 12 days and reaches 5,644m at Kala Patthar. Both follow the identical approach trail from Lukla to Namche, so the choice between them is a schedule and altitude decision, not a route preference. For the full comparison read our Everest View Trek vs EBC guide →

What is the best time for the Everest View Trek?

October and November are the finest months — post-monsoon clarity delivers the sharpest mountain views from the Everest View Hotel ridge. April is the best spring month, with the rhododendron forests in full bloom on the lower trail. Avoid June, July, and August — monsoon cloud consistently obscures the mountain views that are the primary purpose of this trek. For the full month-by-month guide read: Best time for the Everest View Trek →

What permits are required?

Two permits cover the full trek — the Sagarmatha National Park entry permit and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit. Both are included in Mountain Hike Nepal’s package price, so no independent purchase is needed. Your guide carries and presents all permit documentation at the checkpoint at Monjo.

Can I extend the Everest View Trek to EBC if I decide I want more?

Not on the same trip without pre-planning — the EBC extension requires additional permits, more guide days, and a longer overall itinerary that’s easier to arrange before you fly out than to decide mid-trek. It’s best planned from Kathmandu before departure rather than decided at Namche Bazaar. If you’re unsure whether 5 days or 12 days is right for your fitness and schedule, ask us before booking. Chat with us on WhatsApp →

Is travel insurance required?

Yes — travel insurance is required before Mountain Hike Nepal confirms any booking. Because the Everest View Trek doesn’t go above 3,880m, a policy covering trekking to at least 4,000m is sufficient — you don’t need the higher-altitude cover required for treks like EBC. Confirm this threshold with your insurer before departure, and check that helicopter evacuation is included for remote-area coverage.

Does the Ramechhap transfer add much time to a 5-day Everest View Trek?

It adds roughly 4–5 hours to Day 1, and that transfer is already built into the itinerary rather than tacked on as an extra day. You leave your Kathmandu hotel before dawn, reach Manthali Airport in Ramechhap, and fly on to Lukla — the whole transfer happens before the trekking actually starts. On a 5-day trip this is the single biggest travel block of the week, so treat Day 1 as a travel day first and a trekking day second.

Do I still get free airport pickup if my Lukla flight leaves from Ramechhap?

Yes, but it’s two separate transfers, not one. Your complimentary Tribhuvan International Airport pickup happens once, when you land in Kathmandu at the start of your trip; the Ramechhap transfer is a different, trek-specific pickup from your Kathmandu hotel on flight day, also included at no extra cost. Don’t confuse the two — one gets you into the country, the other gets you to your flight.

Is the Kathmandu–Ramechhap drive manageable for families or older travellers?

The road itself is smooth tarmac via Bhaktapur, Sanga, and Dhulikhel, in a private or shared vehicle depending on group size — no rough terrain involved. What’s harder than the road is the departure time, since peak-season flights leave Manthali before sunrise. If an early start is a genuine concern for your group, the Ramechhap overnight option below removes that problem entirely.

Why does an easy trek like this still need the early Ramechhap departure?

The early start has nothing to do with how demanding the trek is — it’s a Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) rule that moves all scheduled Lukla flights to Manthali Airport in Ramechhap during Spring and Autumn, to reduce congestion at Tribhuvan International Airport. Every airline flying to Lukla follows the same rule, whether the trekker booked a 5-day trip or a 12-day one. It’s a flight-scheduling constraint, not a reflection of the Everest View Trek’s own difficulty.

Is there any way to avoid the Ramechhap transfer altogether?

Not during peak season — every scheduled Lukla flight departs from Manthali Airport in Ramechhap from March to May and September to November, with no exceptions by airline. A private helicopter charter from Kathmandu is the only way around it, and that sits well above this trek’s price point. Outside peak season, Kathmandu–Lukla flights run direct, so a winter booking removes the transfer question, though monsoon isn’t recommended for the mountain views this trek is built around.

What if bad weather delays my flight and I only have 5 days total?

This is the real risk on a short trek — a one-day delay eats a fifth of your total trip, which hits proportionally harder than on a 12-day itinerary. We build 1–2 buffer days into every Kathmandu schedule for exactly this reason, and our team rebooks the next available flight or arranges a helicopter alternative if a delay threatens your onward travel. If your international flight home is fixed and inflexible, tell us at booking so we can plan the buffer around it.
