We begin our journey early in the morning, leaving Kathmandu behind as we drive north toward the Kerung border, the gateway to Tibet. The scenic drive takes us through beautiful Himalayan foothills, small towns, and terraced farms. After border formalities, we stay overnight at Kerung, a peaceful Tibetan town surrounded by snow-capped peaks.
Today, we drive through the high Tibetan plateau, crossing amazing passes with spectacular views of Mount Shishapangma (8,013m), the world’s 14th highest peak. We stop at Tingri or Lhatse for a quick break before reaching Shigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city, home to the famous Tashilhunpo Monastery.
After breakfast, we head east toward the sacred city of Lhasa. On the way, we pass small villages, rivers, and yak-dotted meadows. Arriving in Lhasa, you’ll immediately feel the spiritual energy of the city. It’s a moment of peace and joy as we settle in for the next two nights.
A full day to explore the spiritual heart of Tibet. Our expert Tibetan guide will take you to the Potala Palace, the former residence of the Dalai Lama, followed by visits to Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street. These sites represent the deep spiritual roots of Tibetan Buddhism and offer fascinating insight into Tibetan life and culture.
Today we continue exploring Lhasa, visiting Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery, two of the largest monastic universities in Tibet. Watch the famous monk debates, enjoy panoramic views, and soak in the peaceful vibes. Evening free for local exploration and souvenir shopping.
Today’s drive is among the most scenic of the tour. We pass the holy Yamdrok Lake, shimmering turquoise against the backdrop of rugged mountains. After some photo stops and lunch, we continue toward Gyantse, home to the beautiful Kumbum Stupa and Pelkor Chode Monastery.
We drive west toward Xegar and Tingri, with constant views of the Himalayas including Everest (Chomolungma in Tibetan). The landscape is surreal, wide, and dotted with nomadic settlements. Get your cameras ready!
Our final day takes us back to the Kerung Border, where we clear immigration and re-enter Nepal. After crossing, we drive back to Kathmandu with full hearts, unforgettable memories, and new friendships.
