Bhutan Visa information and Formalities

All tourists visiting Bhutan, excluding Indian, Bangladeshi and Maldivian Passport holders countries require a visa and though at their though a government licensed holder travel company. No foreign missions or embassies abroad sanction tourists` visas. As per the Government regulations, travel to Bhutan require full tour payment of minimum tariff set the government of Bhutan that includes visa fees, accommodation, meals, Guide, Transportation, tourist taxes through the tour operator. It will take 2-3 working days to clear your visas with the Government of Bhutan. Once cleared, visa clearance letter will be to you in advance and your actual visa is then stamped on your passport upon arrival at the Paro airport. You will have to carry this copy along with you always otherwise you will not allow to board flight. You need to provide your passport copy to your tour operator. Your passport must be valid 6 months beyond the travel dates.

When to Visit Bhutan and Cost info

It is possible to travel Bhutan all the year round except in the months of June, July and August because of monsoon season. Spring (Months of March, April & May) and Autumn (Months of September , October & November ) are the best seasons for the travel to Bhutan as there are festivals fall in the different places in these months. Spring seasons are a wonderful time to see Bhutan with flowers blooming around and warmers. Temperatures are pleasant and the valley is bursting with nature. Autumn although is colder in morning and evening, days are warmer with clear blue sky for great views of mountains.

The government set tariff is USD 250 per night per person for high seasons of March, April, May, September, October and November and USD 200 per night per person for low seasons of January, February, June, July, August and December. The Bhutanese visa fee is USD 40. The above cost includes meals, Government taxes, 3-4 star hotels, Guide Service, Land transport within Bhutan, permits, entrance fees and sightseeing. Does not include personal nature of expenses such as drinks and beverages, laundry, Phone calls, internet, tips and any kind of insurance

Guide Services and Accommodations

Bhutan will have licensed local guides which will introduce you to many facets to this wonderful country. All guides are trained and certified by the Tourism Council of Bhutan and training is given frequently to update knowledge and skills. Guides are knowledgeable, Friendly, Helpful, supportive and can speak fluent English.
We take the greatest care in selecting your hotels during your visit to Bhutan. We provide the 3 or 4 star hotels. Whenever 4 stars are not available then we provide 3 star hotel. All the hotels are approved and classified by the Tourism Council of Bhutan and they are clean and well maintained. You will have a choice of Bhutanese, Indian, Chinese and Continental choice of foods. Besides package rates hotel if you wish to stay in luxury hotels such as Uma, Amankora, Taj Tashi, Zhiwaling and Le Maridien then you will have to pay a supplement. These hotels don’t fall under the government categorized hotels and they have their own rates.

Transport and Meals

The national Highway is the only main road that travels from west to east of country. Bhutan`s main highway is about 1.5 or 2 lanes wide, with lots of beds and bumps. There are comfortable vehicle available such 4 WD SUVs, Spacious Toyota land Cruiser, Toyota Coaster and Hiace buses depending on the size of group. These vehicles are perfectly suitable for covering long distances and winding roads.
For those travelers who may be prone to motion sickness, we recommend them bringing medication as a precaution.
Bhutanese meals are rich with spicy chilies, cheese and consume large quantities of the grain. There are restaurants that serve the choice of Chinese, Continental, Bhutanese and Indians to the travelers. There are vegetarian meals also available in Bhutan. Bhutan is a landlocked country so seafood is generally not common but tourist hotels and restaurants do keep the imported stock that feature on their menu. While on trek, seasoned and trained cooks will prepare dishes suitable to western taste and food is better than in cities.

Health and Safety

There are no vaccination requirements for entering the country. Visitors are therefore advised to be up to date with the standard vaccination when visiting Asia. However, if you wish you may talk to your doctor about receiving immunizations against certain preventable diseases. Bhutan is safe to travel for solo travelers and women travelers as there is very little crime in the country. There is no sexual harassment as Bhutanese women generally enjoy a good standing in society. Since all tourists have a travel guide, there is little chance of coming across unpleasant occurrences. It is advised to take the same universal precautions in crowded entertainment places at night, Particularly when in discos or bars, or walking back to the hotel in the late evening.
