Nepalese Teenager Nima Rinji Sherpa Sets New Record, Summits 10 Peaks Above 8,000 Meters

Nima Rinji Sherpa, a 17-year-old Nepali climber, has made history by becoming the youngest person to summit 10 peaks above 8,000 meters. He achieved this feat on October 6, 2023, when he summited Cho Oyu, the sixth-highest mountain in the world.

Sherpa began his climbing career at the age of 14, and he quickly became one of the most promising young climbers in Nepal. In 2022, he became the youngest person to summit Mount Manaslu, the eighth-highest mountain in the world.

In 2023, Sherpa set his sights on summiting all 10 peaks above 8,000 meters in Nepal before his 18th birthday. He began his expedition in April, and he summited his first eight-thousander, Mount Everest, on May 24. He then went on to summit Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, Broad Peak, and K2 in quick succession.

Sherpa’s accomplishment is remarkable, given the extreme dangers of climbing eight-thousanders. These mountains are known for their high altitude, treacherous terrain, and unpredictable weather conditions. Sherpa’s success is a testament to his skill, determination, and courage.
