Nepal Tourism on the Rise: October 2023 Sees Record Tourist Arrivals
Nepal’s tourism industry continues to soar, with October 2023 marking a new record for the highest number of tourist arrivals in a single month. According to data from the Immigration Department, Nepal welcomed a total of 117,306 tourists during the month, surpassing the previous record of 113,000 set in October 2019.
The surge in arrivals is attributed to a number of factors, including the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, aggressive marketing campaigns by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), and the country’s unique and diverse attractions. Nepal is home to the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest, as well as other stunning natural scenery, ancient temples and monasteries, and vibrant culture.
The majority of tourists to Nepal come from neighboring countries such as India, Bangladesh, China, and Sri Lanka. However, a substantial number of non-resident Nepalis also contribute to the growing numbers, particularly those coming from the United States and Europe.
The tourism boom is having a positive impact on the Nepali economy. It is estimated that the tourism industry contributes around 10% of Nepal’s GDP and employs over 1 million people. The increase in tourist arrivals is also leading to the development of new infrastructure and businesses in the tourism sector.
The Nepalese government and the NTB are working to further promote Nepal as a tourist destination and to ensure that tourists have a safe and enjoyable experience. The tourism boom is also expected to continue in the coming years, as Nepal becomes increasingly popular with tourists from all over the world.
