My Unforgettable Journey: Annapurna Circuit Trek in November 2024

I am Jessica Turner from the USA, and I had the incredible opportunity to visit Nepal in November 2024. I booked my solo Annapurna Circuit Trek with Mountain Hike Nepal, and it turned out to be one of the most life-changing experiences of my life. It was my first visit to Nepal, and with the help of their professional team, I successfully completed the trek, supported by a knowledgeable guide and a helpful porter who carried my belongings.

Here, I want to share my detailed journey and encourage others to embark on this adventure with Mountain Hike Nepal.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon my arrival in the afternoon, I was warmly welcomed by the team at Mountain Hike Nepal. That evening, they organized a special welcome dinner at one of Kathmandu’s finest restaurants. I savored a traditional Nepali Thali while enjoying a mesmerizing cultural dance show. It was a perfect start to my adventure, immersing me in Nepal’s rich culture and hospitality.

Day 02: Exploring Kathmandu’s Treasures

The second day was dedicated to exploring Kathmandu’s iconic landmarks. My guide took me to Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath (the Monkey Temple), and Patan Durbar Square. These places were not just visually stunning but also rich in history and spirituality. In the evening, we discussed my upcoming trek in detail, which got me even more excited.

Day 03: Beginning the Annapurna Circuit

An early morning drive took me to Besi Sahar, the starting point of the Annapurna Circuit. This is where I met my guide and porter. From there, we began trekking through lush green valleys, charming villages, and terraced farmlands.

The Annapurna Circuit Experience

Every day on the Annapurna Circuit was unique, offering breathtaking views and cultural insights.

Day 4-6: Trekking Through Villages

We passed through picturesque villages like Dharapani and Chame. The trails were lined with prayer flags, chortens, and mani walls, reflecting the deep Buddhist influence in the region. The locals, primarily Gurung and Thakali people, were incredibly kind and welcoming.

Day 7-9: Reaching Higher Altitudes

As we ascended, the landscape transformed into alpine meadows and barren terrains. At Manang, I spent an acclimatization day, exploring the village and enjoying the serene Gangapurna Lake.

Day 10-11: Crossing Thorong La Pass

The highlight of the trek was crossing Thorong La Pass, standing at 5,416 meters. The climb was challenging but rewarding. Standing atop the pass, surrounded by towering peaks, was a moment of pure triumph and awe.

Day 12-14: Descending to Muktinath and Jomsom

The descent brought us to Muktinath, a sacred site for Hindus and Buddhists. From there, we trekked to Jomsom, passing through Kagbeni, a charming village that felt like stepping back in time.

Cultural Insights and Sherpa Hospitality

Although Annapurna is not home to the Sherpa community like Everest, the people of the region were equally warm and hospitable. My guide shared fascinating stories about the trek’s history, the ancient salt trade route, and the cultural significance of the Annapurna region.

The teahouses were simple yet comfortable, offering hearty meals like dal bhat (lentil curry and rice) and yak cheese. I was amazed at how the locals lived harmoniously in such remote and challenging conditions.

Day 15: Return to Kathmandu

After completing the trek, I flew from Jomsom to Pokhara, where I spent a relaxing evening by Phewa Lake. The next day, I returned to Kathmandu for some rest and a final day of exploring before flying back home.
