BP Highway Closure Extended: Dashain Festival Travel Plans Affected
The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has confirmed that the BP Highway will not reopen before the Dashain festival, creating a major setback for those planning to travel during the festive period. The highway, a vital route connecting Kathmandu with the eastern parts of Nepal, has been closed for weeks due to ongoing road repair and landslide prevention work.
The Ministry emphasized that while they are working hard to complete the maintenance, the scale of the damage caused by recent heavy rains makes it impossible to reopen the road in time for the upcoming Dashain festival. This will severely impact the travel plans of many individuals returning to their hometowns to celebrate the festival with family.
Authorities have urged travelers to explore alternative routes and stay updated on traffic advisories. Public transportation companies are also expected to make adjustments in light of the prolonged highway closure.
Despite the inconvenience, the Ministry assured that the closure is necessary to ensure the safety of the road for future travelers. Source
